Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to reveal the general overview and trends of the scientific literature in the fields of circular economy and waste management. Design/Methodology: In the study, 1095 articles retrieved from the Web of Science database were examined using bibliometric analysis based on the PRISMA method. VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel programs were utilized for the analysis of the obtained data. Findings: The analysis findings reveal that academic interest in the subject has increased over the years and that the studies have been published in high-impact journals. According to the keyword analysis, the most frequently encountered terms in the literature are (1) circular economy, (2) waste management, (3) recycling, (4) sustainability, and (5) life cycle assessment. Another result of the study shows that, in country-based evaluations, the United Kingdom holds a leading position in terms of both the number of publications and citations. Limitations: The study is limited to articles that are indexed in the Web of Science database, published in English, and released between the years 2014 and 2024. Originality/Value: It has been determined that bibliometric studies focusing on the circular economy and waste management literature are quite limited. This study was conducted on a relatively large sample, covering the years 2014–2024 and analyzing 1095 articles. Therefore, the study holds potential for presenting an overall picture of the relevant literature and is expected to contribute to the academic field.
