Abstract

The "dc" Kerr constant of CS <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> has been measured at 10.6 μm and found to be <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">(2.9 \pm 0.8) \times 10^{-8}</tex> statvolt -2 cm. This yields a value of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">(2.1 \pm 0.7) \times 10^{-11}</tex> statvolt -2 cm 2 for the nonlinear refractive index.
