Abstract

Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) is a non-invasive therapy for tremor based on focusing ultrasound in the deep parts of the brain without damaging adjacent tissues. Despite many benefits, the procedure has its side effects. In addition, some patients show a relapse of tremor some time after the procedure. The question of the need for repeated surgery on the same side remains debatable. The article presents two clinical cases of repeated unilateral FUS thalamotomy in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) due to the relapse of tremor after the first procedure. Factors that may contribute to the effectiveness of the intervention or increase the risk of adverse events are described. Further studies are needed to establish the indications and contraindications for repeated FUS thalamotomy on the same side in patients with PD.
