Abstract
BACKGROUND: Currently, the issue of effective selection and recruitment of medical personnel is being actively studied, taking into account the profile of a specific position, including the determination of personality characteristics. In non-medical fields requiring high qualifications, such as aviation and space exploration, the relevance and value of personality research has already been recognized, as evidenced by the application of the five-factor personality model as one of many tools in the selection of trainee candidates in the work of human resources departments. It is necessary to study personality traits and their influence on the work of physicians in basic specialties to improve the effectiveness of the selection and recruitment process. AIM: To study the five-factor personality model of primary care physicians as an element of medical position profiling at the state healthcare institution «Polyclinic №2». METHODS: The personality characteristics of primary care physicians were studied using the «five-factor personality questionnaire». The study included specialists who met the inclusion, non-inclusion, and exclusion criteria at the state healthcare institution «Polyclinic №2» in Volgograd. The questionnaire was used in electronic format through the Yandex Form platform and consisted of 75 questions. The obtained responses from respondents were analyzed using methodological keys. As a result of the study, the degree of expression of each of the five "Big Five" factors were measured. Statistical analysis of the obtained data was conducted using descriptive statistics methods with the trial version of the "StatGraphics" software package. RESULTS: The survey revealed a predominance of «attachment/separateness» and «control/naturalness» factors, which scored the highest points: 53.69±2.59 (95% CI) and 54.46±2.94 (95% CI), respectively. The «expressiveness/practicality» factor ranked third, scoring 47.48±2.49 (95% CI). The «emotionality/restraint» and «extraversion/introversion» factors demonstrated lower results, scoring 43.46±3.07 (95% CI) and 44.28±3.18 (95% CI), respectively. CONCLUSION: The results of the conducted study indicate a predominance of «attachment/separateness» and «control/naturalness» factors, which indicates a high level of responsibility, striving for self-improvement, kindness, and sociability. The "five-factor personality analysis" has proven itself as an effective and convenient tool for determining the personality characteristics of physicians.
